WordPress 2.7 and Image Uploads

I just figured out why my WordPress blog wasn't allowing me to upload images, and fixed it. It was just a matter of files permissions on the folder.

By default, WordPress uses wp-content/uploads/ for these. As soon as I set the permissions to "766", the uploads worked.

Using Dreamweaver to set the permissions didn't work. I don't know why that is, but sometimes it doesn't; a message within Dreamweaver admits that. I used my host's control panel, and all was suddenly well.

Why I'm still using WordPress 2.7 (only on my personal blog - not this one you're reading, but the one at www.thepattysite.com/blog/) is a good question. A while back I gave a good try to upgrading, but it failed, and I just didn't pursue it. I need to solve that one too.

That blog is hosted on a Windows server. My friend Jerry of Maui Web Designs says that he has much fewer problems with WordPress when on a Linux server. I think he's right and have been hosting all new WordPress sites on Linux.

Speaking of which, here's the WordPress site I just launched a couple of weeks ago: www.mojomom.com. I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
